First days in North Manchester
After about a 11 hour drive for Newark NJ I arrived in the little town of North Manchester. It is a quaint little town of about 6000 people and everyone knows everyone. Since I was a new face in town everyone was excited to meet me which made for a very warm welcome compared to our welcome to Newark where all of our cars where broken into in the first couple of weeks. We were able to have dinner with Frances Moore Lappe' who is the author of many books concerning food, the environment and hunger. She was very inspirational and full of hope that we as inhabitant of this planet know how to sustainably live with others and with the earth to meet our basics needs like food. I got to talk with her for a bit and she was really excited and fascinated with our group deciding we want to intentionally make our closest friends apart of our daily life and though inexperienced we want to pursue knowledge in a simple agrarian lifestyle under the mentor ship of experienced elders here. I have never really thought about what we are trying to do as to different just because all the people I have surrounded myself with in the past couple of years have all had similar interest or are actually living this lifestyle. She called us a pioneer which is an exciting complement but not true at all. There are tons of people doing this all around the world and throughout the US like the folks at Joyfield Farm here in North Manchester who we all admire and hope to learn infinitely from their 25 years of experience and wisdom in a simple agrarian lifestyle and peaceful nature. I am excited about this next chapter in my life and for my group of friends.
